Okay to leave stitches in 12 days?

I had a mole removed and the doctor is not back from vacation until the morning of the 12-day mark. However, it is on my chest and I keep reading everywhere that leaving them in too long can cause "track" scarring. Am I over-worrying and maybe the extra 1.5 day won't be a huge deal? And no, I do not feel comfortable taking them out myself.
